I write about my own life — the ordinary parts, the harder parts, the parts I don't say out loud most days. I put them into songs because I think the most useful thing I can do as a writer is tell the truth about my own experience clearly enough that someone else recognizes themselves in it. If a song of mine has ever made someone feel less alone in something they were carrying, then it did the work it was supposed to do.
I grew up in St. John's, Newfoundland — a place with a bigger music culture than most people would guess, where you grow up hearing live music the way other kids hear traffic.
I started singing at 5, and songwriting at 7. At 18 I left home and moved to Halifax, by myself, to study at NSCC Music Arts. I signed a lease on an apartment, worked part-time jobs, built a band, wrote songs, and released them independently. I bootstrapped every part of it. There was never really another path.
"You Like" is my newest single, co-written with Adrian Morris of Neon Dreams, produced by Adrian, and mixed and mastered by Corey LeRue. I released it independently — no label, no machine. In its first days out, it hit #4 globally on Apple Music's New in Punk playlist. I'm nominated for Rock Artist of the Year and Solo Artist of the Year at the 2026 Music NL Awards.
I want the big stages — the big sound, the big crowds, the nights when the audience knows the words. Because that's the proof. That's when I know the song reached somebody who needed it. That's what I'm working for, and I'm not going to be quiet about it.
So much of what I've done so far would not have been possible without the East Coast music community. Thank you for the support, the encouragement, the tough feedback, the open doors, and for treating an independent kid with a lot to prove like she was worth the time. I know how rare that is. I'll never take it forgrated.
"You Like" is an angry girl anthem for those stuck in a loop of trauma and karmic redemption. MADELINE's lyrics push and pull between needing to run and wanting to stay. Influenced by artists like Avril Lavigne and Hayley Williams.
Co-written with and produced by Adrian Morris of Neon Dreams.
Mixed & mastered by Corey LeRue.
"You Like" is a new development in MADELINE's sound, as she stomps her way to being one of Atlantic Canada's most promising young artists.
